Every year about 50,000 Canadians undergo operations to correct hernias using surgical mesh products. Up to 20 per cent of people who have procedures involving these implants experience complications. These include infection, nerve damage, adhesions, bowel obstructions, chronic pain and, in serious or untreated cases, death.

A comprehensive consumer awareness campaign has been launched to better inform and educate Canadians about the risks of defective hernia mesh products and how victims may be eligible to participate in a mass tort legal action (individual lawsuit) against manufacturers of these products.
